In the meantime, the German-Rainbow-Open has become an established tournament in international gay golf sport. When 5 of our group of organizers gave birth to this event in 2005, our plan, to arrange a huge, international golf tournament on a championship course, played over 2 days, 18 holes each, was just a dream.
Our vision was to create something like the EURO- or GAYgames, which easily encourage an international crowd of players to join this competition.
And the idea to make it an event that attracts lesbians and gays at the same time to play golf and party together was then and still is today one of our basic aims. Mixed flights, mixed age groups, mixed playing abilities ... this combination enables togetherness and communication within this heterogeneous group of homosexual golfers of both sexes.
This dream became reality, for the 7th time in 2011, and the event in 2012 is already in sight: Again in fall, again at the same location: WINSTONgolf, near Schwerin. Here is where we feel at home, 2 days of sport and fun, golfing within our community.
And, we intend to introduce more gay people to this fascinating sport. Therefore we organize "golfing 101", which is a beginner/trial lesson of about 3 hours, given during the first day of the tournament by officially teaching golf professionals.
So far for the moment, we all are looking forward to seeing you in fall 2012... "May the swing be with you"!
